If every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings, then every time a MRR rabbit gets adopted, our hearts sing!

There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you see a rabbit who has had nothing but rejection and hardship in his or her life find their forever home. Seeing a rabbit who was minutes away from being euthanized at a shelter when MRR stepped in with a foster home, and then seeing them being pampered and adored by a new family, makes us that much more committed to finding good, loving, permanent homes for every other surrendered and abandoned domestic rabbit sitting alone in a cage at a shelter, waiting.

Here is one of our recent happy-ending stories:

My volunteer job with the Michigan Rabbit Rescue is to pet and hold the bunnies at the adoption events to help socialize them. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it. Of course, I wanted to adopt all the bunnies. After many months, I finally convinced my husband, Mike, to let me adopt one and then he decided that we needed to adopt two because one would be lonely. What a great idea!

It was so difficult to pick two. They are all sweet and adorable. I adopted Sonoma (formerly Bungee) and Mr. Peepers (formerly Mr. Hoppers) at the March, 2010 adoption event. Sonoma is a beautiful black, satin and Mr. Peepers is small, gray and white. One of my favorite champagnes is called Piper Sonoma. We love to visit Napa and Sonoma California and I was going to name them Piper and Sonoma. But Mike saw Mr. Peepers and said, let's call him Mr. Peepers, so we did.

Mike built them a bunny condo, which is very nice. It's 8 x 4 ft. They have two litter boxes and various boxes and a cat climbing structure. I give them hay all the time, pellets, many different types of greens, bananas, raisins, papaya tablets, and fresh water 1-2 times a day. I use Yesterday's News for litter and dump out and replace the litter in the morning and evening.

We bring them out of their condo for several hours a day and they run around free. I bring out two smaller litter boxes and they run back and use those when needed. They hop, run, play, and investigate us when we sit on the floor. I give them their greens, bananas and raisins during free run time.

I'm surprised that our two Greyhounds, Vegas and Savannah, are fine with the bunnies. I originally thought they could never been together. I never leave them alone together. But when we are there, the Greyhounds lie on the floor in the same room with the bunnies.

All is well and we love the bunnies!
